Get Hired Through Jobs NYC!

This spring and summer, New York City and the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development continue to promote the innovative, new Jobs NYC employment program.

Jobs NYC is a “place-based” initiative serving areas of the city that have faced the highest rates of un- and under-employment. The initiative brings together employers and jobseekers for monthly Jobs NYC “Hiring Hall” events, one in each of the city’s five boroughs every month for six consecutive months through July 2024.

Here are the Hiring Hall events in June:

  • Manhattan – Thursday, June 20 at BMCC’s Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center
  • Bronx – Tuesday, June 25 at Carolyn McLaughlin Community Center
  • Brooklyn  – Wednesday, June 26 at NYPD Community Center 127 Penn
  • Staten Island – Thursday, June 27at Ferryhawks Stadium
  • Queens – Friday, June 28 at the High School for Law Enforcement and Public Safety

Michael Sedillo, Senior Advisor to First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, said: “We are just so eager to invite New Yorkers from neighborhoods with disproportionately high rates of unemployment to come to these new Hiring Halls so that they can connect with employers, with workforce development and training opportunities, and with other apprenticeship programs…to learn more and find their way to the jobs they’re looking for.”

Bryant Nichols, a Community Coordinator with NYCHA’s Office of Resident Economic Empowerment & Sustainability (REES), is part of one of five LOOP (Local Opportunities and Outreach Program) teams comprised of staff from multiple City agencies that are working to bring the Jobs NYC program to target communities across the city, including NYCHA residents. Those target communities include:

  • Manhattan: Central Harlem North-Polo Grounds, Harlem, Morningside Heights
  • Bronx: Morrisania, Mount Hope, Grand Concourse/Highbridge
  • Queens: St. Albans, South Jamaica/South Ozone Park, Jamaica
  • Brooklyn: East New York, Brownsville
  • Staten Island: Stapleton, St. George/Hamilton Park/Tompkinsville

Mr. Nichols has provided strategy support, assisted with securing NYCHA community spaces, helped to coordinate additional REES volunteers to support the events, and ensured that residents have advance notice of these opportunities.  

“What makes this initiative so special is that it really has tapped into every resource that New York City has,” said Mr. Nichols. “The Mayor’s Office saw that there are many City-funded agencies that do workforce development or offer similar resources to New Yorkers, so we have reached out and pulled them all together for these Hiring Halls. And we will also now have community-based organizations there to provide advanced training, GED support, access to benefits – so many great resources coming together under one roof!”

Complete the online intake form to make sure you hear about future events and other career opportunities. The Jobs NYC site also enables job seekers to learn about free employment services and occupational skills training programs available at the Hiring Halls.
