Honoring Tomorrow’s Environmental Leaders: Green City Force 2025 Graduation

On May 9, Green City Force celebrated the months of hard work and impactful environmental initiatives by its 28th cohort and 2024 Eco-Hub Fellows at a graduation ceremony held at Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn.

GCF is a non-profit that operates an AmeriCorps program that provides NYCHA and low-income housing NYC residents ages 18 to 24 with full-time service projects, training, and education on sustainability and green technologies, as well as a stipend and assistance with job and college placement. GCF operates six urban farms as Eco-Hubs at Astoria, Bay View, Forest, Howard, Mariners Harbor, and Wagner Houses.

Cohort 28 were first-term AmeriCorps members who completed six months of service, while Eco-Hub Fellows are second-term members who completed 10 months of advanced leadership service.

Over the course of their six months of service, Cohort 28 completed seven building energy audits, harvested over 2,500 pounds of organic produce for NYCHA residents, processed over 61,700 pounds of organic waste into compost, and hosted over 2,000 visitors to all of the Eco-Hubs.

In addition to friends, family, GCF staff and alumni, and partners, other guests at the celebration included speakers such as Brooklyn Deputy Borough President Kim Council, Con Edison Corporate Affairs Manager Aram Marcelle, Cohort 28 graduate speaker Brittney Charles, Founder and CEO of Compost Power and GCF Alumnus Domingo Morales, and CEO of Drive Change Kalilah Moon. The festivities also featured a performance from Blue Angels Drumline.
