Family Days Bring NYCHA Communities Together

From June through September, nearly 165 Family Days brought residents together at NYCHA and PACT developments across the city. Organized by resident associations, these annual celebrations are a highlight of the year, giving neighbors a chance to come together for fun, fellowship, and community pride. Music and entertainment, food, games and activities for children, community resources, and plenty of giveaways were all part of the festivities, which also brought together NYCHA staff, elected officials, and local organizations.

Red Hook Houses

At Red Hook Houses, Mayor Mamdani and NYCHA CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt joined Red Hook West Resident Association President Karen Blondel and residents at Coffey Park on August 15.  Residents celebrated with an afternoon of food, entertainment, and community fun, while recognizing the work of the Red Hook West Resident Association and its longtime advocacy on behalf of nearly 3,000 residents.

Rangel Houses

Rangel Houses celebrated its 75th anniversary with a Family Day that honored the development’s history and the generations of residents who have called it home. The celebration included a special recognition of Marian Woods-Saintcye, 101, and Irene McKay, 98, who both moved into Rangel when it opened in 1951.

Marcy Houses

After a nine-year hiatus, Marcy Houses celebrated a Family Day thanks to the development’s new Resident Association President Marylyn Rivera, who was able to provide a hot meal for 1,400 people and bring together young people and older adults to celebrate their community.

Here is a sampling of photos from some of the Family Days held at developments across the city:
