Green City Force Celebrates Cohort 30

Cohort 30 of Green City Force (GCF) began their service and training during Earth Month last year and wrapped up their terms during Climate Week NYC, marking a full-circle moment for the young New Yorkers who spent the past several months working to create greener, more sustainable NYCHA communities. The cohort was celebrated at a graduation ceremony held at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn on September 25.

GCF is a non-profit that operates an AmeriCorps program which provides NYCHA and other low-income housing NYC residents ages 18 to 24 with full-time service projects, training, and education on sustainability and green technologies. The Green City Force Service Corps also provides a stipend and assistance with job and college placement.

Over the course of their service term, Cohort 30 collected 11,400 pounds of organic produce grown at five NYCHA farms and distributed to NYCHA residents, processed over 53,000 pounds of organic waste into compost, completed 18 energy audits, and hosted over 1,000 visitors to all of the Eco-Hubs.
