Are you or your loved ones without health insurance? Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to make sure all New Yorkers who are eligible for health insurance take advantage of the plans available to them. GetCoveredNYC is a new campaign to enroll 50,000 New Yorkers in health insurance plans. There’s still time to sign up for low- or no-cost health insurance; the deadline to get covered is January 31.

“We don’t know the future of the Affordable Care Act, but we do know that Obamacare and Medicaid expansion are helping New Yorkers every day,” said Mayor de Blasio. “We must continue to enroll eligible residents in these vital programs, paying special attention to those most appealing to low-income residents, such as Medicaid and the Essential Plan.”

The Mayor’s Office has partnered with Health + Hospitals, the largest public health care system in the country; the Human Resources Administration; the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; and MetroPlus on GetCoveredNYC. 

Depending on income and other criteria, you may be eligible for Medicaid at no cost. If your earnings are higher than Medicaid limits, you may be eligible for the Essential Plan, which offers comprehensive coverage for either $20 premium or no cost, depending on income. For those who earn even more—between 200 and 400 percent of the federal poverty level —you may be eligible for Qualified Health Plan coverage, offered by MetroPlus and others, with public subsidies on a sliding scale reflecting income. All the plans cover inpatient and outpatient care, physician services, diagnostic services, mental healthcare, and prescription drugs.
