Computer Coder Teaching Young NYCHA Residents Awarded Prestigious Prize
Hood Code founder and president Jason Gibson, who grew up in Queensbridge Houses, received a prestigious 2022 David Prize, The New York Times reported recently. The David Prize organization selected Mr. Gibson as one of five individuals whose “grit and vision” is changing New York City for the better.
Mr. Gibson received the $200,000 prize for creating a free after-school coding program, Hood Code, that is offered at seven NYCHA developments across the city.
Mr. Gibson has said that the goal of Hood Code is to help children break the cycle of poverty by learning a high-paying, in-demand job skill such as computer coding.
