Application Deadline Extended for the Summer Youth Employment Program!
The deadline has been extended until May 6 for New Yorkers ages 14 to 24 to apply for the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)! Special initiatives are available for youth who live at the following NYCHA developments: Castle Hill, Patterson, Boulevard, Ingersoll, Brownsville, Van Dyke, Bushwick, Tompkins, Wagner, Polo Grounds, St. Nicholas, Queensbridge, Stapleton, Red Hook, Butler, Gowanus, Jefferson, Johnson, and Wycoff Gardens.
Eligible residents receive reserved slots with select providers via the MAP to $uccess program. Residents from Baruch and Baruch Addition, Breukelen, Bronx River, Farragut, King Towers, Ravenswood, Throggs Neck, Tilden, and West Brighton are eligible for the SYEP NYCHA Career FIRST program. Also, applications from residents of other NYCHA developments will receive preference in the community SYEP program open to NYC youth and young adults.
“Providing programs like SYEP for young New Yorkers keeps them safe and helps them secure a better future,” said Mayor Eric Adams in announcing the opportunity. “We are thrilled to open up applications for tens of thousands of youth to engage in summer jobs, develop skills, and carry memories that will last a lifetime.”
SYEP provides young people with paid opportunities to explore potential career interests and pathways, allowing participants to engage in learning experiences that help develop their professional, social, civic, and leadership skills. A record 90,000 SYEP opportunities will be available this summer.
The 2022 program will include two six-week cohorts beginning July 5 and running through August 20. Apply online or at a participating community-based organization by Friday, May 6, 2022. For more information, call 800-246-4646.
