We Are Family – Celebrating Family Day at NYCHA
From June through September, over 150 Family Days were held at NYCHA and PACT developments throughout the city. Family Days are an annual event all residents look forward to because they are days to come together as a community with activities for residents of all ages. Organized by resident associations, the festivities include food, games, music and entertainment, face painting and bouncy houses, resources, and more. In addition to residents, the events are attended by NYCHA staff, elected officials, and local organizations.

During Amsterdam Houses Family Day on August 17, Resident Association President Yvette Powell was honored by Senator Brad Hoylman with an award declaring the day “Yvette Powell Appreciation Day.”
“Our Family Day theme was ‘Unity in the Community,’ whereas the entire community comes together as one big happy family. Special thanks to Angela Miller and Tanisha L. Hill, my Family Day chairperson, for going above and beyond with me to make our Family Day a great success and a perfect day.”
Berry Street
At Berry Street Family Day there was a wealth of information and resources, including CPR training and free high blood pressure tests; activities for children, including a water slide, bouncy house, and a clown; refreshments and music; and raffles.
“Berry Street’s 2024 Family Day was a vibrant celebration of community spirit, bringing together residents of all ages for a day of fun and connection,” said Berry Street Resident Association President Rebecca Sanchez. “The event, beautifully coordinated with the help of Pablo Almonte, featured an array of vendors who shared valuable information and resources with the community. Children laughed and played, enjoying treats like cotton candy and snow cones, while a playful clown kept the younger crowd entertained. For the more adventurous, a water slide and bouncy house offered endless excitement. The day reached new heights with raffles, giving away iPads and skateboards, making it a truly unforgettable experience for all. Special thanks to my incredible team and all others who contributed to making this day such a success!”
