Family Days Show How NYCHA Communities Care for Each Other
From June through September, over 120 Family Days were held at NYCHA and PACT developments throughout the city. Organized by resident associations, Family Days are an event residents look forward to all year because of the camaraderie, fellowship, and fun. Resident associations produce events that feature something for residents of all ages, including music and entertainment, food, games and prizes, bouncy houses and face painting, community resources, and more. In addition to residents, the events are attended by NYCHA staff, elected officials, and local organizations.
Woodside Houses Family Day
Woodside’s Family Day highlighted the impact of community partnerships that invest in the futures of young residents. NYC Kids Rise – a longtime partner of the Woodside Houses Resident Association which helps families build savings for their children’s higher education through its Save for College Program – joined the festivities alongside Rise Light & Power. Woodside’s Resident Association (RA) President Tammy Reyes was presented with a ceremonial $25,000 check from Rise Light & Power for the organization’s 2025 community scholarship, which will be distributed to the NYC Scholarship Accounts of 196 rising fifth graders living in Queensbridge, Ravenswood, Astoria, and Woodside Houses. Earlier this summer, the Woodside RA launched its own fundraiser for its 2025 community scholarship to benefit the first graders of Woodside Houses.

Whitman Houses Family Day
At Whitman Houses, Family Day was an opportunity to recognize people who make a difference for the development and the community. Whitman Houses RA Vice President Myrna Jefferson presented RA President Julie Sharpton with an award for her dedication to Whitman Houses residents and the larger community. Ms. Sharpton, in turn, honored members of NYCHA’s Asset and Capital Management team for their instrumental work in improving the development, including upgrades to the basketball court and the removal of sidewalk shedding. Awards were presented to two Asset and Capital Management employees to recognize their advocacy and tireless efforts to address the development’s capital needs: Mayank Kumar, Senior Borough Liaison for Asset and Capital Management, and Chirag “CJ” Patel, Vice President for Program Management.
