Fun at the Fair

The first NextGen Resource Fair of 2018 gave residents at Sotomayor Houses an opportunity to learn firsthand about NYCHA programs and opportunities, meet staff from local organizations, and visit with community leaders.

Assembly Member Marcos Crespo, NYCHA General Manager Vito Mustaciuolo, and Vice President for Public Safety Gerald Nelson joined Resident Association President Regina Howell, Property Manager Madeline Mendez, and many neighbors on May 17 for a day of activities and education.

The New York Public Library also gave away goodie bags full of books and reading tools, and the youngest attendees had their faces painted courtesy of City Council Member Vanessa Gibson. Without a doubt, the liveliest and most engaging demonstration was provided by James Ortiz, NYCHA’s resident engagement expert on recycling.

NYCHA’s Office of Emergency Management, Resident Watch Program, Resident Engagement, External Affairs, Family Partnerships, and REES teams also participated. Participating community partners included Directions for Youth, the Mayor’s Action Plan, the NYC Fire Department, Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, New York Public Library-Soundview Branch, and the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Houses Resident Association.

NextGen Resource Fairs were also hosted at Todt Hill, Fulton, and Ravenswood Houses this summer. Additional fairs are scheduled for the fall.
