Providing Excellent Service to Residents
Meet James Nelson, NYCHA Plasterer
We’re periodically featuring the hardworking men and women who provide excellent service to residents. Learn more about how we’re improving residents’ homes and becoming a better landlord through their perspective. In this installment, meet James Nelson, a NYCHA Plasterer since 2012:
“We go in and do our best. Most of our work is from water damage. Our maintenance workers, who are looking for the leaks constantly, will find them, and we’ll go from there. We’re putting in new cabinets, lights, tiles, grab bars, doors, and new sinks and toilets, if necessary. We knock an apartment wall down, take off the old plaster and wires, and the metal framing comes out. Then we put it all back by starting the framing, putting the plates in behind the sinks and for the grab bars in the shower, and finishing the new wall.
“It comes out nice when it’s done, and everybody’s happy. Residents can’t believe it. They say only positive things and thank us. I really enjoy the job. I only wish it had come earlier in my career!”
