June Is National Gun Violence Awareness Month

During the month of June, NYCHA is marking National Gun Violence Awareness Month by hosting four important virtual community conversations for residents that address numerous topics, including gun violence and standing up to community violence, recognizing elder abuse, stopping domestic violence, and conflict mediation and other forms of non-violent communication.

The virtual conversations will be hosted with participating community experts from community-based organizations JASA, Center for Court Innovation, G-MACC (Gangstas Making Astronomical Community Changes), Life Camp Inc., Central Family Life Center, CAMBA, and Safe Horizon.

All community conversations will be held on Zoom and registration is required. There is a limit of up to 300 participants for each conversation.

If you are a NYCHA resident interested in learning more about how you can take a stand against violence in your community, consider getting involved or attending a community meeting of NYCHA’s Community Violence Response (CVR) Working Group. The CVR responds to violence in NYCHA communities by collaboratively working with resident leaders, community-based organizations, the New York City Police Department, and other stakeholders, to form and implement strategies and to provide residents with resources. The CVR hosts quarterly meetings to ensure residents’ voices are heard in the efforts to create safer communities for all NYCHA residents. Upcoming meetings will be held in September and December. To learn more, please contact DaVida Rowley-Blackman, Director, NYCHA’s Office of Public Private Partnerships, davida.rowley-blackman@nycha.nyc.gov.
