The rain couldn’t dampen the community spirit of National Night Out: On August 6, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) hosted events in the neighborhoods they serve at more than 70 locations. National Night Out brings together community members and their local police precincts to help foster stronger community ties and promote safer neighborhoods.

Each of the nine Police Service Areas (PSA) serving NYCHA developments held indoor and outdoor festivities that included barbeques, bounce houses, face painting, food and entertainment, and more. As residents enjoyed the food and activities, they also had the chance to meet with officers from their local police precinct and learn about safety resources. Joining the NYPD and NYCHA residents were resident association leaders, NYCHA staff, community partners, and elected officials, including NYCHA CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, who both joined in on the fun at the PSA 2 event at Red Hook Houses in Brooklyn.
