New Boilers Will Bring Comfort and Conservation
The Energy and Sustainability group in NYCHA’s Capital Projects Division recently paved the way for new boilers at Patterson Houses by completing the required chimney liner installation. The work is part of a $16 million heating system upgrade through HUD’s Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) program.
EPCs use future utility cost savings to fund capital improvements, such as new boilers, that are needed to generate these savings. There’s currently $294 million in EPC upgrades underway at 70 NYCHA developments across the city.
The work at Patterson Houses includes central boiler plant upgrades, steam and condensate distribution repairs, and the installation of temperature sensors in apartments. These upgrades will provide more consistent and comfortable heat for residents. The new boilers are expected to be up and running before heating season begins in October.
