New Mural Unveiled at Bushwick Houses
“We Belong Here,” proclaims the colorful, new mural unveiled on November 14 at Bushwick Houses that celebrates community pride and represents collaboration.
Joining young Bushwick Houses residents and community members at the ribbon-cutting were the partners behind the mural: designers from the Bleacher Report who partnered with lead muralist Sally Rumble, Bushwick Houses Resident Association President Lohoma Shipman, and staff from Grand Street Settlement, which operates the Bushwick-Hylan Community Center. Also in attendance were representatives from the offices of State Senator Julia Salazar and Council Member Jennifer Guiterrez as well as the Los Sures Neighborhood Safety Coalition.

“This mural presented an opportunity for our community to come together and take part in something we can be proud of and brought beauty to a dull wall,” Ms. Shipman said. “The finished product is a beautiful representation of community pride and new friendships. We are very thankful to TNT Sports and Bleacher Report for the opportunity.”
Prior to the unveiling, a community paint day was held on November 4, where residents of all ages joined employees of Bleacher Report and TNT Sports to help bring the mural to life.
