NYCHA Resident Training Academy Honors Latest Construction Cohort

In January, a graduation ceremony was held to celebrate 19 residents for their successful completion of the NYCHA Resident Training Academy (NRTA) Green Construction Training Program, which provided them with the skills and certifications needed to work in the skilled trades.

Managed by NYCHA’s Office of Resident Economic Empowerment and Sustainability (REES), the NRTA provides NYCHA residents with training opportunities and employment referrals for careers in the construction, janitorial services, and maintenance fields. Graduates also receive job placement assistance for up to a year.

Featured remarks were given by Dynishal Gross, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), and Shanna Castillo, Vice President of Partnerships and Initiatives at NYCHA, alongside partners from New York City College of Technology and Workforce1.

REES is hosting in-person assessments in March 2026 for the next cohorts of the NRTA Janitorial and Pest Control tracks; visit the following links for more information: Janitorial Assessment and Pest Control Assessment.
