NYCHA’s Capital Projects Roundup: August
In August, NYCHA’s Capital Projects Division (CPD) marked the completion of City-funded upgrades to two daycare center playgrounds at Washington Houses and Carver Houses in Manhattan.
In addition, CPD completed federally funded exterior building repairs at Glebe Avenue-Westchester Avenue in the Bronx as part of Local Law 11, also known as the Facade Inspection & Safety Program. As a result, nearly 300 linear feet of sidewalk shedding was removed.
CPD oversees more than $1 billion in construction projects across the Authority’s portfolio that are funded with federal, State, and City investments. The department works to preserve and modernize public housing for NYCHA residents through professional design and construction services that are carried out efficiently and with the highest degree of safety and quality.
On August 25, Washington Houses welcomed renovations to its existing daycare center playground, which features all-new play structures for children to enjoy. The site additionally received painted ground markings and safety enhancements under the $281,000 project, initially funded by former Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, with continued support from Councilwoman Diana Ayala.
Children can also explore new equipment at the Carver Houses playground thanks to the completion of another daycare center renovation project by CPD. The $343,000 project involved similar upgrades to the Carver play area, including safety surfacing and painted ground markings. The project was initially funded by former Council Speaker Mark-Viverito, with continued support from Councilwoman Ayala.
Earlier in the month, CPD completed Local Law 11-related repairs at the Glebe Avenue-Westchester Avenue development in the Bronx, which were delayed by several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funded by a federal grant, the $1.9 million project included replacement of exterior bricks, repairs to windows, removal of sidewalk sheds, and other safety improvements to the six-story building.
