Older Adults: Apply for Affordable Housing at The Atrium at Sumner
Applications are being accepted now through June 1, 2023, for affordable senior housing at The Atrium at Sumner, located at 57 Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
The Atrium at Sumner housing lottery is open to low-income older adults ages 62 and over who meet the income and household size requirements. There are 99 apartments available through NYC Housing Connect, including 33 apartments set aside for current NYCHA residents in public housing or with Section 8 tenant-based voucher holders, and a limited number of apartments for seniors with mobility and vision and/or hearing impairments. Eligible residents will pay 30 percent of their income for rent and will need to qualify for Section 8.
The building’s amenities include a 24-hour attended lobby, free broadband in common areas and apartments, resident building superintendent, on-site building manager, an interior atrium garden, laundry on the 2nd and 9th floors, a multi-purpose community room, a library/computer room, bicycle storage room, exercise room, emergency pull cords and built-in air conditioners in each apartment, and handrails in common areas. The building also features a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE Center) on the ground floor, which tenants of the building will have the ability to join voluntarily.

The Atrium at Sumner was constructed through the Extremely Low & Low-Income Affordability Program of the New York City Housing Development Corporation, the Senior Affordable Rental Apartments Program of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and NYCHA. The building has a total of 190 apartments, which include the above 99 apartments available on NYC Housing Connect, 57 apartments for individuals who were formerly homeless referred by city agencies, and 33 apartments for people referred from NYCHA’s Section 8 and public housing waiting lists.
