Closure of the Comment Period for NYCHA’s Proposed E-Bike Policy
In June, NYCHA proposed a new policy prohibiting e-bikes and e-bike batteries inside our buildings, and we invited residents and all members of the public to submit comments about this new proposed policy.
We appreciate all the comments we received and thank our stakeholders for providing their input. The public comment period closed on September 6, and we will now diligently review all the comments received, continue our technical research into the matter, and continue meeting with experts and members of the community to determine the best course of action for moving forward. As always, our top priority is to work with our partners across the city to provide safe homes for residents. To clarify, at this time there is no new policy in place (and thus no date for its implementation).
Although there is no new policy on e-bikes and e-bike batteries at this time, gas-powered vehicles remain banned in NYCHA buildings and apartments, and NYCHA’s home-based business policy prohibits home-based businesses for repairing, charging, or storing e-bikes, e-bike batteries, or gas-powered vehicles.
Thank you again for your valuable input as we strive to foster safe and healthy communities.
