Proposed New Policy Related to E-Bikes and E-Bike Batteries; Reminder About Prohibition of Gas-Powered Vehicles

Summary of Change

To prevent fires and preserve the health and safety of residents, NYCHA is proposing a new policy prohibiting e-bikes and e-bike batteries inside of its buildings. You can read the full notice here:

Under the proposed new policy, residents and guests would not be able to keep or charge e-bikes or e-bike batteries in apartments or in common areas of NYCHA developments. Also, under NYCHA’s current home-based business policy, a home-based business for repairing, charging, or storing this equipment is prohibited.

As a reminder, there is already a prohibition on keeping gas-powered vehicles inside NYCHA buildings.

Actions Required

Under this proposed new policy, all e-bikes or e-bike batteries currently being stored inside NYCHA buildings must be removed by October 15, 2022.
