Deadline Extended to October 1, 2020!

NYCHA residents pursuing college degrees: Here’s an exciting opportunity for you to win up to $12,500 toward your education. New York law firm Cannon Heyman & Weiss, LLP (CHW) is offering residents of affordable housing developments the chance to win college scholarships.

CHW, which specializes in the affordable housing industry and community development, sponsors this annual scholarship fund as part of its mission to help students living in affordable rental housing developments further their education.

The scholarship awards $12,500, $7,500, and $5,000 to successful, qualified applicants and can be used toward expenses for full- or part-time study at approved colleges, junior colleges, technical schools, and other post-secondary institutions leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. Graduate studies are not eligible. It is open to students who live in multi-family affordable housing developments, including NYCHA residents and Section 8 voucher holders.

Residents interested in applying for this year’s scholarships must submit an essay and two letters of recommendation; you may also include an academic transcript.

Applications must be submitted by June 1, 2020. Due to the impact of Covid-19 on the many families with qualified applicants, the deadline has been extended to October 1, 2020.
