Combatting Malfeasance

Dear Residents,

As you may be aware, today the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, together with the NYC Department of Investigation (DOI), arrested numerous NYCHA employees and retirees on charges of bribery.

In recent years, the NYCHA Inspector General has mounted robust investigations to root out malfeasance at the Authority. NYCHA leadership works in partnership and full cooperation with the Inspector General and DOI on these cases.

NYCHA has zero tolerance for wrongful and illegal activity. The individuals allegedly involved in these acts violated your trust and betrayed their fellow NYCHA colleagues and all New Yorkers.

In the past five years, NYCHA has achieved many significant milestones, while remaining vigilant to ensure integrity in every area of our work. We have already made transformative changes to our business practices and will continue to do so.

Bad actors will be caught, and we will not allow them to disrupt or undermine NYCHA’s work on behalf of public housing residents.

We thank Ralph Iannuzzi, NYCHA’s Inspector General; Jocelyn Strauber, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Investigations; Damian Williams, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York; and their respective teams for their diligence in this investigation. We will continue to work with all of our law enforcement partners to rid the Authority of malfeasance.

On behalf of NYCHA leadership and staff, we remain deeply committed to New York City’s public housing residents and to preserving public housing. It is honor to serve you each and every day.

Sincerely,

Lisa Bova-Hiatt
