Gas line inspections at NYC buildings

Dear NYCHA Resident,

Please be aware that a new City law (Local Law 152) requires New York City building owners, including NYCHA, to begin inspecting all the gas lines at their properties.

Vendors will begin conducting gas line inspections at NYCHA buildings this April. We expect to complete inspections of about 770 buildings in all five boroughs by the end of June, and will complete inspections of all of our buildings over the next four years – a cycle that will then repeat, in accordance with the City law.

Vendors will inspect basements, boiler rooms (in the warmer months), and common areas for any issues that need to be corrected. They will not need access to residents’ apartments.

The health and safety of our residents and employees is NYCHA’s top priority, and these inspections are an important public safety matter. We have taken several proactive measures to minimize impact to you during the inspections. If gas service is turned off as a result of the inspection, we have a dedicated department that will work to restore service as quickly as possible. And we will communicate with all impacted residents, providing ongoing updates on the status of restoration. As always, we apologize for any inconvenience that a service outage causes and thank you for your patience as we work to improve the condition of our buildings and your quality of life.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your property manager.

Sincerely,

Greg Russ
