A New Coat of Paint: Cleaning Up Graffiti Around the City

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) launched its graffiti clean-up initiative on April 10. All around the five boroughs, NYPD officers and a host of volunteers came together to address graffiti complaints submitted by community members. In Police Service Area 4, which serves 25 NYCHA developments in Manhattan, NYPD officers, auxiliary police officers, young members of the Law Enforcement Explorers Program, cadets, and NYCHA residents grabbed rollers, paint, gloves, and smocks to cover up the graffiti in numerous locations. NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea pitched in with volunteers at the Lower East Side’s Seward Park Extension Community Center, operated by Grand Street Settlement. The NYPD will continue to host paint events to bring together officers and community members. To submit a location in need of graffiti clean-up, email Graffiti@nypd.org
