Jobs-Plus Program Expanded to Serve Residents at 44 Developments

Now, even more NYCHA residents in search of employment, education, and financial empowerment opportunities can visit Jobs-Plus locations at their development or nearby to help find and keep jobs. That’s because the City added three Jobs-Plus locations this summer:

  • Brownsville, Brooklyn: serving Howard, Low, Glenmore Plaza, Garvey (Group A), and Hughes Apartments
  • Long Island City, Queens: serving Queensbridge North, Queensbridge South, and Ravenswood
  • Woodside, Queens: serving Woodside

Jobs-Plus operates either on-site at NYCHA developments or within walking distance. Thanks to the expansion, the program now serves 44 NYCHA developments through a total of 13 locations citywide. (Before this year’s expansion, there were 10 Jobs-Plus sites serving 27 NYCHA developments.) Jobs-Plus connects residents 18 years and older to employment, education, and financial empowerment services that help them find and keep jobs. The program helps participants learn how to prepare for interviews, create professional resumes, and gain money management skills. The ultimate goal is to create solid pathways to employment for residents of NYCHA and others in the community, who typically earn below the city’s average median income.

Additionally, mental health services are available at seven of the Jobs-Plus sites. This holistic approach helps participants overcome barriers to employment that could be the result of mental health challenges, and achieve financial independence.

More than 25,000 people have enrolled in Jobs-Plus since 2013. A recent evaluation of the program by the Urban Institute found that one year of Jobs-Plus participation increased employment rates by 12 percent and increased average quarterly earnings by nearly $500.

Jobs-Plus is jointly administered by the NYC Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration (NYC DSS-HRA), NYCHA, the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs/Office of Financial Empowerment, and the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity, with NYC DSS-HRA serving as the lead partner administering the program.
