Melrose Houses Residents Receive Subsidized Laptops

Since November 2021, 67 residents of Melrose Houses in the Bronx received laptops, thanks to a partnership between NYCHA and the People’s Choice Communications internet provider. Melrose’s resident association assisted with the laptop distribution. The initiative is part of the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which seeks to ensure that low-income households can afford broadband internet service for work and school by providing those who qualify with a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop as well as a $30 monthly discount on internet service.

The Melrose Houses residents paid a one-time copay of only $11 for each laptop. Their development is one of the five NYCHA community Wi-Fi projects completed as part of the City’s Internet Master Plan.
