NYCHA Celebrates National Night Out
On August 4, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) hosted National Night Out events at more than 70 locations citywide.
Now in its 43rd year, National Night Out is an annual event hosted by police precincts across the country in partnership with community members to strengthen relationships between neighbors and law enforcement and promote safer neighborhoods.
Each of the nine Police Service Areas (PSA) serving NYCHA developments in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens hosted events at or near NYCHA developments, including Bushwick Houses, Douglass Houses, Melrose Houses, Soundview Houses, Queensbridge Houses, and Wald Houses. During the events, community members meet with members of their local precinct, local businesses, and elected officials while enjoying summer fun and activities.
The PSAs were presented with proclamations in recognition of officers’ efforts and service to NYCHA residents – NYCHA CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt presented a proclamation to PSA 1 at its event in Coffey Park, next to Red Hook Houses, and Chief Operating Officer Eva Trimble presented one to PSA 6 at Douglass Houses in Manhattan.
Along with NYCHA leadership, National Night Out participants included staff from Property Management; Resident Services, Partnerships, and Initiatives; Quality Assurance, Safety, and Technical Programs; Communications; Intergovernmental Relations; and Public Safety.
