In June, eight NYCHA residents graduated from the Resident Leadership Academy (RLA), a free program that helped emerging NYCHA resident leaders strengthen their leadership skills and become more active in civic life at their developments and in their communities. The graduates received a Certificate in Community Leadership from the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU). Over the course of two years, RLA participants earned 16 college credits by completing four courses at SLU: Intro to Public Housing, Community Organizing, Intro to Nonprofit Leadership, and Research Seminar on Public Policy. The RLA was a partnership between NYCHA and the SLU and was funded by the New York City Council.
