Learn About the Inspections of NYCHA Developments

Dear Resident,

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regularly inspects NYCHA’s buildings – from the grounds to apartments – to make sure that our housing is decent, safe, sanitary, and in good repair. This inspection process is known as the Public Housing Assessment System (or PHAS), and it helps us determine whether our developments meet the necessary HUD standards and where improvements are required.

Our staff and our residents, working together, can help ensure that NYCHA housing is a quality place to live, all year round. For instance, if you see something improper or that needs to be repaired at NYCHA developments, please report it by filing a complaint at our website (on.nyc.gov/submit-concern) or by calling the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 (select menu option “7”). And please provide NYCHA staff with access to your apartment, when necessary, to perform any repairs, maintenance, or inspections.
