Rolling Back Certain COVID-19 Restrictions

Dear Residents,

New York State recently reached an important milestone in the recovery from the pandemic: at least 70 percent of adults in the state have received at least one vaccine dose, resulting in the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines. Accordingly, we are pleased to announce that NYCHA will begin to roll back the following COVID-19 safety protocols as of the dates listed below:

Effective immediately:

  • There are no limits on the number of people permitted in shared spaces such as NYCHA development elevators.
  • Routine cleaning of NYCHA developments will return to normal schedules.
  • Staff performing work in apartments are no longer required to question residents about their current health status before conducting the work.
  • Visitors are permitted at development management offices, however, the NYCHA walk-in-centers will not be receiving customers at this time.
  • All visitors to development management offices, regardless of vaccination status, must still wear face coverings.

Effective July 6, 2021:

  • Fully vaccinated employees are no longer required to wear face coverings and maintain physical distancing while on NYCHA premises, except in the following situations:
    • All employees and residents, regardless of vaccination status, must wear face coverings while NYCHA staff are performing work in apartments; and
    • Employees and residents must wear face coverings and maintain physical distancing when meeting with visitors at development management offices.
  • Unvaccinated employees must continue to wear face coverings and maintain physical distancing at all times while on NYCHA premises.

The COVID-19 vaccine is widely available in New York City, and people 12 and older are eligible to get one. Please visit nyc.gov/covidvaccine for the most up-to-date information about the vaccine and where to get one.

Since the start of the pandemic, NYCHA has been thoughtful and intentional when implementing protocols to keep our residents and employees safe. Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate this changing landscape.

Sincerely,

Greg Russ
