Ms. Murphy is a participant of the Directions for Our Youth (DFOY) afterschool program at the Butler Community Center. She received a special citation from Assembly Member Jackson that reads: “…in Za’ira Murphy we have an individual that has given steadfast service to our community and strengthened our great borough of the Bronx.” She also received a citation from New York City Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson that reads: “… Za-ira’ Murphy at the tender age of seven (7) has proven herself an integral member of her community through her voluntary services. As the youngest member of her team, she is being recognized as an effective and consistent leader. Alongside her mother Rhonda Murphy, the pair brings awareness to the food insecurity of the South Bronx, distributing 250 meals daily to those in need.”
