Free Tax Prep for NYCHA Residents
There are numerous organizations offering NYCHA public housing residents and NYCHA Section 8 voucher holders the opportunity to file taxes for free.
For instance, file your taxes with NYC Free Tax Prep (from the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection) to save on tax prep fees and claim valuable tax credits. Learn more at nyc.gov/taxprep.
The Food Bank For NYC is offering free tax prep services for NYCHA public housing residents and NYCHA Section 8 voucher holders at select community centers and community organizations from now until May 17.
UPDATE: The IRS has extended the deadline to file 2020 tax returns to May 17, 2021.
If you earned $57,000 or less in 2020, you qualify for the Food Bank’s free income tax services. IRS-certified and trained volunteers will maximize your refund and protect your data. They will help you get the refunds and credits you qualify for, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Every tax return receives a complete quality review before final submission, and year-round audit assistance is provided if needed. Learn more at https://www.foodbanknyc.org/taxhelp/.
