Apply for Grandparent Family Apartments

Applications are currently being accepted for immediate occupancy at the PSS/WSF Grandparent Family Apartments, located in the Morrisania section of the Bronx.

The Grandparent Family Apartments opened in 2005 and provides a safe and affordable home to older adults and young people; with amenities and services geared toward their needs, it is the only building of its kind in New York State.

Current NYCHA residents and NYCHA waiting list applicants aged 50 and older (though preference will be given to people 55 and older) who are caregivers to children 18 or younger are eligible to apply. Although the building has “grandparent” in its name, caregivers can also be great-aunts or uncles, legal adoptive parents, legal guardians, kinship, or foster parents, and more. The relationship must be court-appointed with each child under care, and birth parents of minors are not eligible to live at the building.

The building offers amenities such as an on-site manager and superintendent, 24-hour security and front desk, laundry facilities on each floor, a library, community rooms, a green roof garden and relaxation area, and more. On-site program services include case management, afterschool and recreation programs, supervised activities for young people, child and family counseling, support groups, educational workshops, and respite care.

Rent is subsidized with tenants paying 30 percent of adjusted income.
