See Something Improper? Let NYCHA Know

Dear NYCHA Resident,

As you may know, the Authority has been working with a monitor and the federal government to achieve the requirements outlined in NYCHA’s Agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Agreement is focused on implementing significant health and safety-related improvements at the Authority while also prioritizing accountability and integrity.

In accordance with the Agreement, NYCHA created three new departments. The Compliance Department ensures that NYCHA meets its legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibilities. The Environmental Health and Safety Department ensures decent, safe, and sanitary environments for residents and employees. And the Quality Assurance Unit ensures that residents receive high-quality repairs and maintenance work.

NYCHA residents, employees, contractors, and the public can file complaints with these departments related to the following at NYCHA:

  • Potential violations of laws, rules, or regulations;
  • Improper maintenance work intended to hide actual building conditions;
  • Previously reported unsafe health and safety conditions related to lead, mold, pests, heating, elevators, and fire safety that were not corrected;
  • Policies or procedures not followed; or
  • Poor quality maintenance work in an apartment or building.

Don’t be concerned about reporting! There will be no retaliation or disciplinary action taken against anyone who, in good faith, reports an issue, problem, concern, or violation against NYCHA. However, complaints can be made anonymously, and all personal information will remain confidential.

To file a complaint regarding any of the above issues, visit NYCHA’s website (nyc.gov/nycha/file-complaint) or call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 (and select menu option seven when prompted).

Please continue to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or use the MyNYCHA app or website to schedule routine maintenance repairs.

Thank you for your partnership as we move the Authority forward.

Sincerely,

NYCHA’s Compliance Department
